    The Museum Herakleidon, conscious of its social responsibility, is establishing two new combination tickets with emphasis on families, which will be available exclusively at the museum annex (Ap.   • 8th Mathematics Week: Series of activities presented by the Museum Herakleidon | Spring 2016

    The Museum Herakleidonis participating in the 8th Mathematics Week, which is taking place in Thessaloniki (Helexpo-Convention Center NikolaosGermanos) from Wednesday, March 30th to Sunday, April 3rd. The theme of the week is “Mathematical Meetings - Searching for Infinity”. Its goal is to showcase the close relationship of mathematics with education, technology, and the other sciences. Mathematics Week is organized by the Central Macedonia branch of the Greek Society for Mathematics in cooperation with the Greek Society for Mathematics and most of its branches in Greece, and is under the aegis of the Ministry of Culture, Education and Religion. Within this framework, the Museum Herakleidon will present a series of educational activities (the games “tridio” and “Race to 20”, the alphabet of the computer and “soap-like” surfaces), which are based on the museum’s interactive exhibition “I Play and Understand” and its program “Science, Art and Mathematics”.... read more

  • METAL SCULPTURES AND MOSAICS EXHIBITION IN THE COURTYARD OF THE HERAKLEIDON MUSEUM

  • “EDUCATIONAL DIALOGUES” ON SCIENCE, ART AND MATHEMATICS WITH EDUCATORS OF ALL SCHOOL LEVELS

    The educational community is showing a sustained interest in the “Educational Dialogues”, which are organized by the Herakleidon Museum and will continue during December 2015. Meetings have been scheduled with mathematics teachers from the middle and high schools of Athens. Beginning in September 2015 and to this day, more than 400 educators of all school levels and college students in teaching programs have taken part in the “Educational Dialogues”, where the general teaching principles of the educational program “Science, Art and Mathematics”, based on interdisciplinary and interactive learning, are presented and discussed.... read more

Functional models of some of the most extraordinary ancient Greek inventions, a selection of the exhibits of the Museum of Ancient Greek Technology Kostas Kotsanas: from the “robot-servant” of Philo and the “hydraulic telegraph” of Aeneas to the “cinema” of Hero, and from the automatic clock of Ctesibius and the astrolabe of Ptolemy to the “analog computer” of Antikythera. An important cultural initiative, which promotes Greece internationally as the foundation of Western civilization.

“Math Tech”: I CONSTRUCT AND DISCOVER

This is an innovative activity that is centered on the meaning of research. The aim is for children to understand how the real world works. To this end, the children create mechanical systems, architectural constructions and electrical circuits, exploring the way these function and understanding the necessity for mathematical concepts. They then decorate their mechanical constructions according to their own aesthetic and take them home for further observation and insight into their operation.

LEGO WeDo™: Educational Robotics

The children use building elements (Lego bricks) to create mechanical constructions, which become the heroes of their own fantasy adventure. In so doing, they solve real problems of the natural world surrounding them. They also learn how to give “life” to their constructions using the computer, thus acquiring programming, mechanical and problem-solving skills.

LEGO Mindstorms: Educational Robotics

Educational Robotics, based on robotic technology as well as the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) teaching philosophy, combines learning with play, thus transforming education into an enjoyable activity. Participants learn to work in a group, to solve problems and to carry out a project. This, in turn, helps them recognize the contribution of science and technology to the well-being of people today.

THE STARSHIP OF SCIENCE: WORD AND THOUGHT… in SCIENCE
